Target: Xi Jinping, General Secretary of the Communist Party of China
Goal: Stop proposed facility from cloning animals just to kill for consumption and use for sport or research.
Over 1 million animals may soon be killed for human consumption or utilized for human gain by a cloning facility that is set to be the world’s largest. Dogs, horses, and cattle are supposed to be cloned and bred at a proposed cloning facility in China. We need to take action to stop this controversial facility from being built in order to better ensure animals will not be mistreated.
According to sources, horses will be sold as racehorses and cattle will be sold for slaughter. While it is said that dogs will be cloned and bred for the purpose of being sold as police dogs, it is possible that these dogs may also be bred for meat, since dogs are traditionally eaten in the region.
Since China has so many stray dogs, some citizens worry that the facility will euthanize unsold dogs. This is not the first time the ethics of this company have been questioned. In fact, the company has a section on their website explaining what people need to do if they are interested in cloning their dead dog, making it so that many shelter and stray dogs will less likely be adopted.
In addition, the plant’s proposed site is near the location of recent chemical explosions. This news is alarming since this plant will clone animals for human consumption and China is guilty of food safety issues. Demand that this company, Sooam, immediately stop construction on the facility. Animals don’t deserve to be cloned and bred for human gain.
Dear General Secretary Jinping,
A new facility may soon be built for the purpose of cloning millions of animals. It is important that this project be halted in order to spare the lives of several innocent creatures. Officials have said that horses will be sold as racehorses, cattle will be sold for slaughter, and dogs will be sold as police dogs.
There are already a plethora of dogs running around in China. Allowing thousands of more dogs to be cloned in order to sell them is irresponsible since dogs that are not sold will likely have to be euthanized. In addition, the company, Sooam, has proven they do not care about such issues, as they have posted on their website what customers should do if they want to clone their dead dog.
Peoples’ lives will further be put at risk if this breeding plant is built because massive chemical explosions have recently taken place near the building site. Because workers’ health would be put at risk as a result of working too close to where these explosions took place and because consumers would be in danger of eating tainted meat because of pollution caused by the explosions, allowing this facility to be built would be both unethical and irresponsible. I urge you to stop this project immediately.
