Justice for Dog Who Allegedly Had Ears and Leg Cut Off Without Anesthesia

Target: Hon. Angelo Delligatti, Nassau County Supreme Court

Goal: Enforce a stricter punishment for vet tech who cut off a dog’s ears and leg without anesthesia.

A convicted animal abuser has gone free in New York. Reginald Smith pleaded guilty to multiple charges of animal abuse totaling two felonies and a misdemeanor. The dog, a pit bull mix named Miss Harper, was allegedly subjected to painful mutilation in Smith’s care. Demand that the Supreme Court reconsider this decision and ensure justice for this innocent dog.

Once a veterinary technician, Smith worked at the Animal Hospital of Elmont in New York. In July of 2013, he performed an operation on a seven-month-old pit bull, allegedly removing her ears and leg without using anesthetic. It is still not clear why he performed this operation. The dog sustained horrific injuries and suffered greatly. When she was rescued by the Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (SPCA), her stump had still not closed and was causing her great pain. The SPCA has been following Miss Harper’s case closely since the shocking details came into light. It was reported that an SPCA representative even attempted to walk out of the courtroom due to his disgust with the verdict.

Smith faced up to two years in prison for charges of cruelty to animals, conspiracy, and unauthorized practice of a profession. Now, he has walked away with only three years conditional discharge with no jail time as long as he practices good behavior. Given the horrific nature of the alleged abuse, this cannot be tolerated. Sign below to join the SPCA in demanding that the Supreme Court reevaluate this case and grant a harsher punishment to this alleged abuser.

Dear Hon. Angelo Delligatti,

Miss Harper, a pit bull mix, allegedly sustained horrific abuse at the hands of Reginald Smith. Her ears and leg were maliciously removed without the use of anesthesia. During the operation and since then she has endured a tremendous amount of pain and suffering due to her injuries. Now, after being sentenced to only three years conditional discharge, her abuser walks free.

We demand that you reexamine this verdict and call for a harsher punishment. If Reginald Smith walks free, then animals will continue to be in danger of harm at his hands. We ask for justice for Miss Harper so that no other animal will ever have to suffer at the hands of Reginald Smith.

  1. This lowlife subhuman monster Reginald Smith must be jailed not for a few months but for years.
That poor and helpless puppy called Miss Harper, the unimaginable agony, suffering and terror this helpless puppy had endured is absolutely sickening, unforgivable and an abomination. This subhuman monster enjoyed torturing this precious and innocent puppy and the same torture and suffering should be committed against this vile and evil lowlife piece of filth. I pray this vile and evil Reginald Smith suffers the vilest of agony and suffering until this monster dies.

  2. What about the vet clinic
Animal Hospital of Elmont in New York,(516) 259-0743.How is it that he was able to do this without them noticing? They should be held accountable as well
As for the ASPCA, I hope they don’t end up killing Miss Harper like they did Oreo, the abused pitbull. Where is Miss Harper now?

  3. Another idiot-monster psycho on the loose — how nice! — WE DO NOT WANT REPEATS OF SUCH CRUEL ABUSE AGAINST ANIMALS — we MUST hold these criminals accountable for their crimes and punishments should be serious and severe!

  4. Maureen LeBlanc says:

Why was this “vet tech” who committed this sadistic deed not subjected to a psychiatric assessment? There is a strong correlation between cruel deeds towards animals and that of humans. Without professional assessment, and help, he will reoffend.
