End Breeding and Capturing of Orcas

Target: Adam Schiff, U.S. Representative for California’s 28th congressional district

Goal: Prohibit breeding orcas being held in captivity, and stop their capture, import, and export.

For far too long, companies like SeaWorld have profited off of entertainment shows featuring mistreated orcas. These shows have animals meant to be living in the ocean in tanks far too small for them and require them to perform for profit. The animals are also forced to breed within their own family lines, which is harmful and risky. SeaWorld’s plan to combat within-family breeding is to separate males and females, which means separating mothers and their babies or siblings, harming their growth.

California Congressman Adam Schiff’s bill proposes an end to this injustice. His proposal would prohibit breeding orcas in captivity, where they are kept in tanks far too small for them. The bill also proposes to end capturing orcas from the wild and stops companies from removing them from their natural environment, as well as end their importation and exportation.

Dear Representative Schiff,

I am writing you today because I wanted to express my support for your bill fighting for the rights of orcas. Your bill would end breeding orcas in captivity, capturing wild orcas, and importing and exporting them. It is imperative for this bill to pass to end this extreme injustice towards these innocent creatures.

Companies like SeaWorld are profiting off of the mistreatment of these animals, who are forced into tanks that do not accommodate their needs. They are pulled from their original habitat, separated from their families, and in some cases forced to breed with their own blood relatives, which is incredibly disturbing.

I applaud your efforts to work towards fair treatment towards these beautiful creatures and stand with you in support.
