Save African Vultures from Poachers

Target: Birdlife International CEO Patricia Zurita

Goal: Launch a massive conservation plan to save the African vultures by working with officials and stepping up protections of these important creatures.

Six of eleven vulture species in Africa face the risk of extinction thanks to poachers, poisoning and hunters who kill the vulture to use in traditional medicine. These findings were reported by a recently released study conducted by Birdlife International.

Poachers purposely kill the birds in order to stop the animals from signaling to officials that poachers have illegally killed an animal. Since the vultures feed on dead carcasses, if poachers kill an elephant like an elephant, the vultures will circle in the sky around the dead animal, alerting officials to poachers.

The vultures play a vital role in maintaining healthy ecosystems as part of the food chain. Their decline affects other species because without them, populations of other scavengers like rats and jackals could increase.

It’s crucial that something is done to protect these innocent creatures who are a major help in officials’ ability to stop poachers. Urge officials to launch a conservation plan to save these beautiful birds from extinction.

Dear Mrs. Zurita,

Your study found that six of eleven vulture species in Africa face the risk of extinction. This is sad no matter what animal it’s happening to, but these vultures play a crucial role in fighting poachers and maintaining healthy ecosystems. Without them, many species including humans will be affected.

I urge you to work with African officials to enact a conservation plan that will help to save these innocent birds from extinction. It’s vital that they remain a part of the African ecosystem and the fight to protect other species against poachers.

  1. Stan Benton says:

It seems that poachers around most of the world are too impatient for the sixth global extinction to finish. Too bad they can’t be next, but homo sapiens is due pretty soon, unless somebody wises up. We need to convince most governments of the world to devote their military to stopping poachers and other wildlife crime.

  2. They need to stop the poachers by life sentences, or death, because they are killing ( murdering ) species that will be wiped off the earth because of their actions. That sounds harsh, but they need to get a legal job, or take their chance on death. Maybe that would at least make them think. GOOD LUCK ON YOUR STOPPING THEM. Hope you get some big hits, making a huge dint among them. I guess that probably pays as good as drug-smuggling, but good jobs just makes you feel better about yourself, and respected, not hated for killing.

  3. Renate Ingelsheim says:

Kill and poison all poachers, and their familly !!

  4. Something MUST be done about these monsters-animal abusers-poachers — these unconscionable & heartbreaking crimes against vultures MUST be stopped — our planet will pay a hefty price because of their unconscionable & cruel acts — what kind of a society allows this — the police & lawmakers NEED TO step up & crack down on these sadistic, insane idiots — arrest them & take them in — do not allow them the freedom to continue their horror.
