Investigate Allegations of Animal Abuse at Dairy Farm

Target: Sheriff Scott Cass

Goal: Fully investigate the allegations of animal abuse at Daisy Farms.

PETA has released video and photographs documenting alleged horrifying acts of animal cruelty by Daisy Farms, a Paris, Texas dairy farm and major milk supplier for Daisy Brand. The video and photos taken by a former farm employee appear to capture countless acts of abuse against the dairy ranch’s cows and calves. PETA has issued a letter to the Lamar County Sheriff Office, and we must also demand a full investigation into the matter.

The captured images are disturbing and suggest that cows are kept in sheds standing and/or lying in piles of excrement. Alongside being confined, a supervisor appears to have locked cows’ heads in stanchions and left them there for over two hours. This disables the cows from movement and prevents them access to water. Many of the cows were pregnant or had just given birth, and even those cows were allegedly captured being jabbed with knives, kicked and whipped by Daisy Farms employees.

It appears that Daisy Farms keeps their cows consistently pregnant despite the obvious risks in order to increase milk production. Once in labor, calves are allegedly yanked out of their mother’s wombs using chains in some cases, taken away from their mothers, and force-fed milk via feeding tubes. PETA asserts that the video shows numerous calves choking and two calves drowning to their death when the milk was forced into their lungs instead of stomachs.

These accounts are just the beginning of the apparent horror revealed in the video footage and still photographs. Lamar County Sheriff Chief Deputy Jeff Springer told CBS News he has not seen the alleged abuse as documented by the former employee, but PETA’s evidence tells a different tale. Stand beside PETA and demand the Lamar County Sheriff conduct a comprehensive investigation into Daisy Farms.

Dear Sheriff Cass,

While I understand that Deputy Jeff Springer has indicated there is no sign of animal abuse at Daisy Farms, PETA has released video and photographs that tell a distressingly different story. As such, the animal cruelty allegations against Daisy Farms deserve a complete and unbiased investigation.

If you take a moment to view the footage yourself, you will see horrific acts against cows and calves that are purportedly being carried out by Daisy Farms employees. What is seen is disturbing, and something must be done to ensure that the abuse captured is not actually happening.

This cannot be done with a simple reliance upon a dairy farm’s reputation. Rather, you must enlist the proper help of animal experts, including veterinary staff, and investigate the Daisy Farm facilities and its livestock thoroughly. It is inhumane on your part not to proceed with an inquisition into PETA’s allegations.

Texas law prohibits livestock cruelty. PETA has obtained visual and eyewitness accounts of alleged livestock cruelty at Daisy Farms. Open an investigation into this matter and punish Daisy Farms to the fullest extent of state law if PETA’s accusations are found to be true.
