Target: Nicole O’Shea, member of PETA and Animal Defenders International
Goal: Support animal welfare activists that are protesting a traveling circus.
An animal activist is planning a protest before a circus performance in Marseilles takes place. The activist, Nicole O’Shea, wants to warn audiences of the alleged distress and pain of animals in traveling circuses. Nicole O’Shea is a member of Animal Defenders International and PETA.
She is actively searching for animal welfare activists to join her and other protestors for a peaceful protest that will be packed with information for the Kelly Miller Traveling circus audience. O’Shea believes that circuses are not able to meet the physical or behavior demands of wild animals. When it comes to small circuses, the animals involved are usually confined in tiny spaces and are deprived of physical and social needs. They spend too much time in their cages waiting for their performance to start.
O’Shea also says that circus animals can often be seen behaving abnormally such as rocking and swaying back and forth. These behaviors all indicate that they are distressed and not coping well with their environment. The organization, Animal Defenders International, released videos showing evidence that animals are required to perform tricks through fear and physical violence from their trainers.
Please sign this petition to support the animal activist’s protest of the Kelly Miller Traveling Circus.
Dear Nicole O’Shea,
You are so brave to take a stand against the Kelly Miller Traveling Circus. It is great that there are people like yourself who are willing to rally and protest to stand up for the rights of innocent animals. Circus animals go through so much torment during training. No animal deserves to be treated this way.
People who take their families to the circus oftentimes do not see the dark side of training animals to perform. They see happy trainers and seemingly happy animals doing tricks that defy what normal wild animals can do. Although it is quite a show, there is so much that goes on behind the scenes. Most of the time, those training methods are shielded from the public eye.
Once again, thank you for being the voice for these animals. The animals need more like-minded activists to fight for them. Hopefully with your peaceful protest, more circus audiences will become aware of what goes on behind the production of a circus show.
