Applaud Network for Airing Whale Captivity Documentary

Target: CNN

Goal: Thank CNN for airing controversial documentary that helped many people become aware of cruelty against captive whales.

CNN recently aired the highly acclaimed documentary “Blackfish,” an account of human injuries caused by killer whales in captivity. The documentary focused on the unnatural habits of holding killer whales captive. It pointed out the fact that there have never been any human injury incidents involving killer whales that are in their natural habitat rather than in captivity.

The film negatively targeted SeaWorld, a location that has had whale-related injuries and fatalities in the past. There has been backlash from SeaWorld, which claims that the documentary was biased and did not mention the positive or learning experiences with the whales, which they say outweigh the unfortunate incidents.

Whether that is true or not, it is undeniable that these creatures should not be in captivity. Aggression towards humans by whales would not be occurring if they were not held captive and these incidents are a clear indicator that these whales are living in distress.

Blackfish effectively gets that point across and is an eye-opening documentary for the unexpectedly large number of viewers it got upon being aired on CNN.

Please sign the petition below to thank CNN for helping to create awareness of the immorality of holding whales captive.

Dear CNN,

Thank you for your recent decision to air the documentary “Blackfish.” Many people are only aware of the positive aspects of theme parks like SeaWorld and are not conscious of the unnatural and cruel consequences of whale captivity.

This documentary pointed out that human injuries and fatalities by whales do not occur when whales are not held in captivity and it has helped many people see whale captivity in a different light.

You aired this program out of morality and for the good of human awareness even though you were aware that it would likely cause controversy and backlash from opponents.

We would like to thank you again on helping to spread awareness on the immorality of whale captivity.

  1. Barbara Chichester says:

Thank you for airing this documentary and telling people
how awful killer whales are treated when they are captured and after. To be taken away from your family, never to see them again, at such a young age is despicable and heartwrenching. And then when in captivity to have your child taken away is grief beyond repair; intense cruelty. How would we like it.

  2. Thank you for being brave enough for telling the real story. It has brought for me a whole different light on the subject. I will never look at it the same way. Many thanks for that.
Very sorry that a woman had to loose her life.

  3. Eileen goodman says:

Wild animals belong in the wild. Period. Using them and caging them is so obviously cruel and heartless.
