Target: Guilford County, North Carolina Commissioner Chairman, Hank Henning
Goal: Praise North Carolina for revoking the licenses from two animal shelters because of inadequate vet care.
North Carolina authorities revoked the licenses of the United Animal Coalition (UAC), which was running the Davidson and Guilford County Animal Shelters, after accusations of mishandling of animals, drugs, and money were sent to the county. Formal investigations found over a hundred documented cases of inadequate vet care. The Guilford County Commissioners voted collectively to suspend the contract they have with the UAC. The county is now taking over the operations and services of the shelters.
Troubling concerns came to the board’s attention in the spring of 2015. Authorities were hearing numerous claims about the shelters, so they had no choice but to look into them. Shortly after, police launched their own investigations by serving the shelters with a search warrant. That search led to many other issues. The two shelters had allegations against them on the bases of animal cruelty, misappropriation of funds, and drugs being kept where they are not supposed to be. The authorities are expected to charge the owners of the shelters with criminal charges related to drug abuse and animal cruelty in the future. Issues of animal cruelty have also been seen and documented.
Running the shelters is a joint effort between the county, animal control, and the sheriff’s office. Please sign this petition to praise the efforts of the state for taking over the Davidson and Guilford County Animal Shelters.
Dear Chairman Hank Henning,
Two shelters in Guilford County, North Carolina has been presented with very serious allegations. They range from animal cruelty, misappropriation of funds, and mishandling of drugs. All of these claims forced the state to revoke the license of the United Animal Coalition, the people running the shelters, and take back control of them.
Thank you, the county, and the animal control team for joining together to formally investigate the shelters and take control of a very bad situation. You and your team are putting the necessary changes into the animal shelters so that the community can once again bring their animals to get the care they need. Animals all over the United States are being neglected and abused every day, so thank you for ending the cycle abuse at the Davidson and Guilford County animal shelters in North Carolina.
