Target: Angela A. Bello, District Attorney of Nye County, Nevada
Goal: Advocate to give woman maximum punishment for allegedly stealing dog and forcing her teenage son to kill it.
A dog was allegedly shot because it ate a woman’s ducks. If the perpetrator is not punished to the fullest extent of the law, she may hurt many more innocent animals.
Maria Christina Furtado is accused of stealing her neighbor’s dog and driving it out to the desert with her kids. She then apparently made her teenage son shoot the animal. The saddest part about this story is that the dog is thought to have not died instantly, an indication that it suffered before finally taking its last breath.
Furtado’s alleged actions not only showed an extreme amount of cruelty towards the dog, but it is highly likely that her son will feel a great deal of guilt after thinking about his participation in the crime. It is further possible that he may need years of therapy just to be able to cope with the situation.
Sign this petition and demand this woman be given the severest penalty for these very inhumane actions, including 20 years in prison for child endangerment, if she is found guilty of committing this disgusting crime. Innocent animals don’t deserve to die in this manner, and children should never be used to commit these types of heinous acts.
Dear Ms. Bello,
A woman was accused of making her son shoot a dog after she realized the dog ate her ducks. If she is not punished to the fullest extent of the law, many more defenseless animals will likely meet her wrath.
Maria Christina Furtado is accused of stealing a dog, driving it to the desert and coaxing her son to shoot it. Unfortunately, some people have surmised that the dog was still alive after it had been shot, making death an all too welcome visitor under the circumstances.
While treating an animal with this much cruelty is never acceptable, it is also unacceptable to use a minor for the purpose of committing such serious crimes. Furthermore, because of Furtado’s alleged actions in forcing her son to help her, the boy may suffer mental anguish when he realizes the entirety of the situation.
For all of these reasons, I urge you to push to give Furtado the maximum penalty for both abusing an innocent animal and for taking advantage of an unsuspecting child. No animal deserves to be treated in this manner, and children certainly don’t deserve to be used as pawns in serious crimes involving inexcusable acts of animal cruelty.
