Provide Rabies Vaccines to Stop Mass Destruction of Dogs in Indonesia

Target: Joseph R. Biden, President of the United States

Goal: Demand the U.S. supply post-exposure rabies vaccines to Indonesia to help prevent the spread of the horrific disease and to stop the mass killing of dogs.

On May 20, 2022, a two-and-a-half-year old boy died in Bali after being bitten by a dog infected with rabies. Though rabies is treatable with post-exposure vaccination, Indonesia and many other countries facing rabies outbreaks do not have access to these vaccines in the same way that countries–such as the U.S.–do. With the proper resources made available, this boy’s death could easily have been prevented.

Rabies has been a rather persistent problem for those in Indonesia– occurring in at least 24 of the country’s 33 provinces– for about two decades. The country has seen sporadic outbreaks of canine rabies since 2008 and, still, rabies vaccinations remain largely unavailable. Due to the limited vaccination resources accessible in Bali, the government has taken more extreme measures in response. Rather than vaccinating outbreaks to prevent the possibility of its spreading, the government is attempting to resolve this problem through the mass destruction of community dogs. Many countries–including Indonesia–have tried to purge dogs to get rid of rabies before. In 2008, Indonesia eliminated hundreds of thousands of dogs–some of which were already vaccinated against rabies–in an attempt to eradicate the disease. But this measure has proven rather ineffective time and time again, as rabies continues to resurge.

Alternative and more humane solutions exist. In fact, Indonesia actually had been very successful with vaccinating dogs in the past–following the 2008 culling–and had almost gotten rid of rabies for good. Unfortunately, due to COVID 19 restrictions and a lack of funds, Indonesia has had to return to the brutal killing of innocent dogs.

If granted more extensive access to vaccinations, people in Indonesia would be able to focus their efforts on more viable, longer term solutions, such as helping to vaccinate dogs once again in order to achieve herd immunity. The combination of post-exposure vaccination for humans that get bitten and vaccinations for the majority of dogs is the most reliable option if we want to end rabies once and for all. Sign this petition to urge the U.S. government to supply Indonesia with vaccines and to save the lives of thousands of humans and dogs in the process.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear President Biden,

Indonesia has recently faced a resurgence of canine rabies. Just a few weeks ago, a two-and-a-half-year old boy was bitten by a rabid dog and died simply because he couldn’t get access to a vaccine. His death–and many others–could have easily been prevented with proper resources.

Indonesia has been battling this vicious disease since 2008, which exists in 24 of the country’s 33 provinces. The government, in response, has taken to a mass culling of community dogs in an attempt to eradicate the disease. However, this purging has proven unnecessary and largely ineffective, and fails to eliminate rabies in the longer term. The more reliable response is the vaccination of at least 70% of the dogs to achieve herd immunity, while also still having access to post-exposure vaccines for any human who is bitten.

Indonesia does not currently have the resources necessary to fight this vicious disease. That is why we, Mr. President, have the moral obligation to help these people who do not have the vaccine access that we do, and these dogs that are suffering as a result. Please distribute rabies vaccines to Indonesia and free them of this disease once and for all.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

      • It seems that no one is really worried about all the dogs being terminated or whatever they call these mass exterminations.

Here is what seems to me a much better idea.

Enforce a cull on all pathetic drug addicts and their suppliers ‘Shooting up’ all over the place, who are draining the country’s resources and the pathetic alcoholics who cost us billions per year ‘drying out’ supposedly, only to start again as soon as they are let back into society! Next would be all of the ‘rapists’ and murderers In prisons again costing more billions a year. Surplus so – called human beings who chose what they wanted to do. Who are definitely surplus to requirements.
Then maybe, just maybe the world would start to become a better place. Maybe!!

    • What makes you think they will accept the vaccines? When animal rescue geoups offered to fix cats free of charge in Brooklyn they declined. They wanted cats gone so they were poisoned.

    • Jan Rydeen says:

We are not a rich country anymore and with Biden ruining our economy, you will be one of those without. WAKE UP

      • 🤣🤣🤣Another tRumptatd. Gas prices in Europe is sky high. Is that Bidens fault you moron? CONservatives do not want to put orice cap on gas prices. You tRumptards are dumb as rocks. GET EDUCATED.

I find it Evil for a Country to just go around and start killing every dog they see. Gods creation slaughtered by Man for something that could have been avoidable. I think the US should step up and provide much needed Rabies vaccines to Indonesia for the sake of the lives of these innocent dogs.

Please please help these dogs. We need to start having a heart if we ever want to whip our society back into shape again; start by helping animals.

  7. Eileen Juric says:

Please do the right thing and thanks!

  8. Our useless sad excuse of a president is giving money to every other country including migrants and drug cartels; why not for the animals?

  9. Why should President Biden and the United States have to provide these services? In my opinion 2 decades has been amble time for the people of Indonesia to help themselves. Of course mass murdering these dogs is NOT THE ANSWER! THIS IS IGNORANCE ON THEIR PART!!!!

  10. They should get the vaccine and be neutered and spayed. I’d be fine having the US donate money to them but with the homeless problem in our country why isn’t the government helping them more?

  11. Father God i ask you to protect the furbabies creatures you created around the world. Open the hearts of our govt, man to help the countries/ world where murdering such as this is allowed.please give this country, world also to follow what you request us to follow. To follow your footsteps. Out of love patience, kindness peace. Forgive us father for we all have sinned.I ask that the world to allow pledge of allegence in our schools to bring back your teachings, your word. For generations so that our hearts can be opened up again to goodness love kindness, neighborly love and peace.

  12. I strongly agree that there is no excuse for killing fur babies. There is always a humane solution.

  13. Whilst you’re saving the animals, euthanise all the people who live there. Cruel barbaric morons

    • Hello Jill, my thoughts entirely.
It seems that no one is really worried or cares about all the dogs being terminated or whatever they call these mass exterminations.

Next would be all of the ‘rapists’ and murderers in prisons again costing more billions a year. So- called human beings who chose what they wanted to do and knew what they were doing and are definitely surplus to requirements. We do not need this human crap on our planet.
Then maybe, just maybe the world would start to become a better place for animals and creatures everywhere. Maybe!!

  14. How is it that rabies is so rampant in Indonesia? They must be one of the dirtiest & germ filled countries on this planet. If the United States was in as bad a condition, we would have 1000 times the worries of the “COVID-19” killing us all off.
With that many rabid animals running around, I am surprised that half the Indonesian population isn’t already dead. They really need to clean up their act.

  15. If they’d quit eating dogs, shit like that wouldn’t happen! Sick Weirdos!

  16. Elease M. Bradford says:

I think it’s a good idea to send rabies vaccines to Indonesia so that they can vaccinate as many dogs as possible, so that if somebody is bitten by a dog, they won’t contract the disease and the lives of many dogs can be saved.
