Goal: Punish police officer accused of abusing and fatally injuring dogs during training exercises to fullest extent if found guilty.
A man who took an oath to enforce the law was allegedly busy violating it instead. Worse yet, this man also swore to protect the victims of his reported crimes. David Rivera, Jr., an officer in a Connecticut K-9 police unit, is charged with cruelty that apparently led to the deaths of at least ten canines under his care.
The suspect operated a dog training facility as a side business, which is where the allegations of cruelty originated. He came to the attention of authorities when several clients reported having their dogs returned in unhealthy and unstable condition following stays at the facility. Many clients noted that the dogs appeared afraid of humans. When a search warrant was obtained, among the items seized were explosives seemingly used in an illegal and unsafe manner to “train” dogs as sniffers. An even more horrifying discovery arose when searchers reportedly found the bodies of ten deceased canines buried on business grounds. Because of these disturbing findings, over 30 dogs were seized from the property and Rivera was prohibited from contact with animals until the case concludes.
Due to the egregious nature of these multiple charges of animal cruelty and Rivera’s standing as an officer, punishment must be stringent. Sign the petition below to urge prosecutors to seek the maximum penalty in the event of a guilty verdict.

Dog caretakers often feel that their furry friends are family. When they entrust their family member to another person, and a seeming professional, a breach of this trust is a violation. Multiple clients of David Rivera, Jr.’s dog training business believe this violation occurred. Evidence suggests that the animals under Rivera’s care may have been abused, traumatized, and, in the worst cases, killed.
This man worked with dogs for a living as a police officer, making his alleged crimes and breaches of trust all the more horrendous. Please seek full justice for every possible victim impacted in this case by pursuing the strongest charges and potential sentences.

This man is NOT a protector and certainly not a police officer. He has killed 10 dogs? Rivera is a disgrace to his chosen profession. I’m glad he was found out and will hopefully be judged in a trial. He needs more than maximal sentences as he betrayed his profession, those who trusted his professionalism and the dogs who suffered under his evil mindset. I hope Connecticut is a felony state this man should receive a maximal sentence. This man needs to be fired, never rehired, never be around animals again for the rest of his life, pay restitution, pay any vet bills and placement costs and be fined for the harm he has deliberately caused to those who believed in him.

There is a site that tracks the amount of dogs/pets that are killed by cops on annual basis and it is nauseating. This sick piece of filth should be put down like the dogs he killed. Make an example of monsters like this, especially ones who hide behind the badge.

This is not the first incidence of a cop killing or mistreating K-9’s that I have been aware of. They should be protected against such scum as this. He should be prosecuted for their murders, revoke his badge and never let him own or train another animal again. This is absolutely heartbreaking.

Lock him away for the max Felony charges for each dog they found dead and for all the others he abused. He should never be allowed in society. Pure evil. I hope the justice system doesn’t fail these innocent animals.

This is sick and disturbing. We keep hearing about police officers severely abusing dogs during K9 Training.
They should be thrown in jail. And obviously other officers and Police Organizations know its going on and help hide it.

Officer Rivera needs to pay restitution to all his clients. He needs to be jailed over killing 10 dogs and abusing countless others. Make him go thru his training methods by one of us animal lovers, I guarantee, he will NEVER abuse another animal again.
At the least he deserves what he gave to those poor dogs who had no chance against him. I know that won’t happen sadly and he will still be among us but it is a travesty. Monster.

We saw this on the news station for multiple days. What he and his people did to these dogs is despicable and sickening and unconscionable. He MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR THE MISTREATMENT OF THESE DOGS THAT THEY WERE ENTRUSTED TO CARE FOR. This is inexcusable and UNACCEPTABLE.
