Target: Tyson Foods President and Chief Executive Officer Donnie Smith
Goal: End alleged horrific and routine animal cruelty on Tyson Foods farms.
A recent Mercy for Animals investigation has discovered horrible animal cruelty practices at a farm working under Tyson Foods, which is the largest meat producer in the world. Some of the discoveries made about the farm from the investigation include farm workers clubbing animals to the death, breaking their dogs, and leaving sick animals to die of dehydration and starvation–essentially abandoning them. Baby birds were reportedly often thrown to the ground where their brittle bones sustained severe injuries.
Additionally, chickens were bred to grow so fast that they became crippled because their frames could not handle the weight of their own bodies. Because of this, the birds often died of heart attacks and organ failure. Moreover, thousands of chickens were forced to live in small quarters that had no windows where they would live among their own waste and ammonia fumes that could poison their bodies.
At this particular farm under the control of Tyson, according to Change.org, over one thousand birds died each day from the abuse they endured along with the unsanitary conditions they were subjected to. Shockingly, in the course of only 42 days, more than 52,000 birds died at the farm. Birds who survived the conditions suffered through their bodies being carelessly slammed into transport crates only to be slaughtered later.
We depend on chickens as a way to nourish our bodies. In their lifetime before being slaughtered to feed humans, they deserve to live in a way that gives them dignity. It is not right for them to be subjected to cruel environments and practices. Sign this petition to demand that Tyson Farms end animal cruelty to protect the thousands of chickens who are kept on their farms.
Dear Tyson Foods President and Chief Executive Officer Donnie Smith,
I am writing to you to demand that you put an end to the animal cruelty that has been exposed by the Mercy for Animals Investigation. No animal should be subjected the horrible conditions and blatant disregard for well-being that was discovered on some of your farms.
From the Mercy for Animals investigation, I have learned that chickens are forced to live in small windowless sheds for weeks at a time, sick animals are left to die, and chickens are forced to grow at a such a fast rate that their bodies cannot handle the weight and they suffer from heart attacks and organ failure.
I am sickened by what has been found. Animals, just like you and I, deserve to be treated with dignity and respect. I urge you to change your practices so that animals on the farms that operate under Tyson Foods are being properly taken care of.
