Save America’s Bees

Target: President of the United States, Barack Obama

Goal: Stop the killing of bees by supporting a Pollinators Act to halt the use of deadly pesticides.

Recently, two representatives introduced the Saving America’s Pollinators Act, which calls for a stoppage in the use of deadly insecticides until scientific evidence confirms they are safe and have no harmful effects on pollinators. Support this life-saving initiative to protect pollinating species, which are crucial to the health of our ecosystem.

The most widely used insecticides are neonicotinoids, which lead to a decline and poor health in pollinators. A recent scientific report indicated that neonicotinoids have serious harm to bees and some ecosystems. The comprehensive report highlighted a variety of ways that these chemicals negatively impact pollinators, including that the residue from these pesticides contaminate nectar, pollen, and the entire environment, making them incredibly toxic to honeybees.

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) should consider taking action immediately because bees are dying in mass numbers as reported by beekeepers. The European Union (EU) enacted a suspension on these pesticides, however, America is lagging behind. Despite the EU’s efforts in stopping the usage of these chemicals, the United States regulatory agencies have yet to take appropriate action.

The Saving America’s Pollinators Act would bring pesticide use to an end until a full scientific review is conducted. Most foods rely on bees and other important species for pollination, and, therefore, the decline in honeybees and other pollinators requires immediate action. Both the environment and food supply are reliant on the welfare of bees, meaning that a decrease in bee population is cause for great alarm.

Immediate action is needed to stop the use of these chemicals across the United States until they are proven safe, and that is the aim of Saving America’s Pollinators Act. Citizens need to play a role in informing their representatives to support efforts to protect bees and other pollinators.

Sign the petition below to help raise public awareness of the integral role of these pollinators, the declining state of their population, and what can be done to save them from extinction.

Dear President Obama,

I am writing this letter to urge you to support Saving America’s Pollinators Act. Bees and other pollinators are disappearing at a high rate, and their loss has been significantly linked to the use of deadly pesticides known as neonicotinoids. Honeybees are particularly threatened due to the usage of these chemicals, putting America’s agriculture at risk.

Honeybees and other species pollinate a vast portion of American crops. Neonicotinoids are the most used insecticides worldwide, even though their use has been reported to have lethal effects on bees and other important pollinators. The European Union has already placed a ban on these chemicals, and it is time for America to take action. Help protect bees and other important pollinators by supporting the Saving America’s Pollinators Act.
