Praise County for Rebuilding Rundown Animal Shelter

Target: Dick Gloede of Shelby County Community Services Enterprises

Goal: Praise County for rebuilding a deteriorating animal shelter for rescued animals.

The Shelby County Animal Control Pound has been a neglected facility for more than 10 years, but now people are taking notice of the rundown building. Fortunately, the head of the Shelby County Community Services (SCCS) Enterprise has heard the concerns and has started plans to fix up the old building by the end of 2015.

The very old animal facility, which usually holds hundreds of puppies and kittens, has been described as cramped, dark, and not a suitable space to take care of rescued animals. Currently, the space does not have running hot water or even a place for employees to give the animals a bath. People believe that this is only one of the many reasons why it is so difficult for them to get animals adopted.

Shelbyville and the SCCS are planning to transform the old pound into a bright and clean place that will benefit the animals and the people working there, too. Plans for the new facility include outdoor kennels, meeting rooms for potential pet owners and the animals, and a washing facility that will be open to the public to use. They will also have hot running water, which was originally lacking at the facility. Police officer Penny Standefer has been helping the cause by using social media to raise funds and promote pet adoptions.

Please sign this petition to thank the leaders of Shelby County for making the necessary moves to improve the lives of rescued animals.

Dear Dick Gloede,

As you know, the Shelby County Animal Pound is badly in need of repair—a building that is supposed to house rescued animals should never be described as “dark and cramped.” After 10 years of neglect, it is crucial for the Shelby animal pound to finally get fixed up.

Thankfully, you and the Shelby County Community Services Enterprises will be funding the rebuilding of this animal shelter. Hundreds of animals are brought to the animal shelter every year, so it is so important that the shelter is in good shape for potential adopters. A clean, well-lit facility will make it much easier for potential adopters to really get to know their future pets.

Thank you for putting the needs of the animal facility front and center in Shelbyville County. Things are truly looking up for the animal community thanks to your contributions.
