Target: Ms. Xiaoyun Yang, Dog Lover and Savior
Goal: Praise rescue of one hundred dogs from dog meat festival.
A true hero has stepped up and saved the lives of a hundred dogs from an annual dog meat festival that takes place in China. Ms. Yang reportedly spent over $1,000 to rescue the dogs, which she plans to house at her home. This outward show of love for animals is wonderful to see and Ms. Yang is deserving of thanks for doing this great deed.
The annual dog meat festival is held in the southern Chinese city of Yulin. While the event is not officially sanctioned by the government of the city, there are no official laws against killing dogs for their meat or eating it. This is a difficult issue to talk about due to how upsetting the consumption of dog meat is to people of many cultures. That being said, it is also important to remain culturally sensitive to places and ways of life that are different and difficult to understand.
The issue here is not the festival itself. People who continue to eat the meat of cows, pigs, chickens, or any animal have no right to complain when one that they find particularly cute is eaten. The issue is that most of these dogs were, in fact, stolen from homes for the express purpose of killing them and eating them.
Many of these dogs being put on the chopping block were loved and cared-for pets, and thanks to Ms. Yang at least a hundred of them will remain as such. Please sign here to commend this selfless, outward show of love and encourage more like it in the future.
Dear Ms. Yang,
I am writing to you with the most profound gratitude for your recent outward show of love for animals. I understand that you personally spent over $1,000 to rescue 100 dogs from the Yulin dog meat festival and that you plan to rehouse them at your own home and take care of them yourself. As you well know, many of these dogs are allegedly stolen pets, taken with the express purpose of killing them and eating them.
While it is not my place to criticize another culture that I do not fully understand, theft, especially of a pet, is absolutely unacceptable. I would like to thank you for taking it upon yourself to do what you knew in your heart to be right and ask you to continue fighting for the rights and safety of animals in the future.
