Goal: Fire the officer who allegedly shot an innocent pet.
A man in Michigan called the police after a fight broke out at a local gas station. Little did he know that the phone call would end with the alleged murder of an innocent dog. As soon as the cop arrived on the scene the caller’s pup, Moose, approached the police vehicle in a friendly way, his body language loose and his tail wagging. The officer reportedly shot Moose four times. Conveniently, the officer’s body camera stopped working right before the incident, but someone who had been filming in the area caught the whole ordeal on video.
Cops kill between 25 and 30 dogs every day in the United States. Shockingly this number is likely an underestimate as police are not required to report animals they shoot on the job. The Department of Justice recently declared the number of dog deaths at the hands of police officers an epidemic. Yet as families are left dealing with the trauma of the horrific loss of their pets, officers almost never suffer any consequences.
This problem is directly related to police murders of civilians. This problem is directly related to police murders of civilians. Time and again, the American public is told that officers’ job is to serve and protect, yet what cops do in our communities is terrorize our neighbors and our pets. This trigger-happy officer who would apparently rather shoot first and ask questions later is a clear danger to the community.
It is time to begin holding officers accountable for their abuse against animals. Sign now and demand that this Inkster, Michigan police officer should be fired for reportedly slaughtering Moose.

Dear Chief Riley,
An officer in your department was apparently filmed shooting a non-violent, unthreatening dog owned by a citizen who reported a fight at a gas station. He reportedly shot the dog, Moose, four times, and his body camera happened to stop working just before the incident, which means that he would not have been caught if he wasn’t filmed by a bystander.
This is entirely unacceptable. There is a reckoning that must happen when it comes to the way police officers interact with the public, and that starts with you and officers like you. When an officer kills a citizen or their pet it breaks the trust that the public puts in law enforcement. This is a relationship that has been fraying for a long time, and it is only going to get worse unless the powers that be reconcile with the community. That must start with firing the officer who allegedly slaughtered Moose in the streets.
Please, make this death right and begin to restore the communities trust in you.

Scared of a friendly dog- very disturbing. I would pursue charges if he killed a pet of mine.
Bystander should have minded her own business
Not to mention the heartbreak his owner sustained after doing what a responsible citizen is told to do anytime they are witness to an act of violence occurring. I doubt he will be so forthcoming in the future. His trust in the police department is most likely broken forever. I hurt for this owner and the sweet dog that never suspected that his friendly gesture would cost him his life.
If the bystander had minded their own business, there would no proof of what this PoS cop did. Go sit down!

Though I think this is absolutely horrible, and this individual needs to be punished, I don’t think demonizing all police officers is productive. We are having surges in crime, people losing faith in our police, and police officers quitting, over this false narrative that they are randomly shooting anything that moves. This is the exception, not the rule. Because of this false narrative, police officers are being targeted and shot. Do a search of how many police officers have been shot this year. Thousands shot, hundreds killed. Let’s focus on getting rid of the bad ones, without demonizing the good ones.
I think this is the most interesting comment I have seen. I love animals and hate to hear of one being hurt, let alone shot to death, but the police have a very hard job in this day and age and although this one who shot the dog seems to be one of the rotten ones by turning off his body camera, which should be easy enough to check as if it had broken, he would have either had to get another or had his present one mended. If turning off was the case, then he should be severely punished and I mean VERY severely as it would mean that he intended to shoot this sweet dog.
This cop must be fired. Who knows who he will shoot next? I know they have a hard job but murdering an innocent dog is despicable! Justice for Moose!

Officers should not only have to account, in detailed reports, for EVERY bullet they fire, they should account for EVERY incident where they unholstered their weapons. They should also be subject to MANDATORY investigations (without pay) for every life they snuff out, be it human or animal, and every death needs to be made a permanent, PUBLIC part of their record. Investigators must not be aligned with the police department; they need to be made up of unbiased citizens from the community. There also needs to be a national database so repeat offenders cannot simply move to the next county and hire on. It’s long past time to weed out the bad cops that give the good cops a bad name.

Knowing that anything can happen when cops are called to the scene, we have to be proactive and take defensive action BEFORE they arrive. Lock your dog in the car with his harness attached to the seat belt. Many men are afraid of dogs. Don’t give cops an excuse to shoot your dog.
Officers need to be help responsible too.
