Target: Councilman John Lee
Horses and ponies seemingly continue to be overworked and neglected at Griffith Park Pony Rides and Petting Zoo in Los Angeles California. According to a recent investigation by the Los Angeles Alliance for Animals (LAAA), the animals in this location did not receive water for nearly seven hours in 90-degree heat. Animal welfare laws are apparently routinely being ignored in this location, said the founder of LAAA, and are not enforced by the parks department, animal services, or the LAPD.
On top of the alleged animal neglect, the LAAA has reviewed several videos, including one where a child was apparently trampled after falling from a pony’s saddle. Sign the petition below to make sure that Griffith Park does not renew its contract.
PETITION LETTER:
Dear Councilmember Lee,
Griffith Park Pony Rides and Petting Zoo has reportedly ignored the animal welfare laws put in place to protect its horses and ponies, seemingly leaving them without water in severe heat for hours. Because of this apparent apathy, along with the alleged inaction from various government services meant to protect the animals, both horses and children are seemingly getting hurt.
Please, deny Griffith Park a renewed contract, and send the animals to an accredited sanctuary where they can be properly cared for.
Sincerely.
