Goal: Thank the company for its annual campaign against shark finning
LUSH Cosmetics Company (LUSH) lays claim to a humble beginning, honest products and, arguably most importantly, a serious agenda with the fight for animal rights. For years LUSH has teamed with shark conservation groups with the goal of ending the cruel shark-finning industry. This annual campaign is largely advertised on LUSH’s website, as well as in its stores around the globe. This year’s anti-shark-finning campaign partnered with Discovery Channel’s “Shark Week,” and featured the company’s staple for the movement: blue soap chunks with paper “fins” on the top. All proceeds of this soap benefit the fight to save wild sharks.
Shark “finning” will likely be the demise of the world’s entire shark population, if serious changes are not made on sharks’ behalf. Finning is illegal in some countries; others have restrictions on finning, but not a full ban. Shark finning consists of stripping a shark of its top fin, then throwing the animal back into the ocean to die a painful death, by either drowning or bait for other large predators. Sharks have inhabited the oceans for 450 million years. Due to the increasing demand for shark fin soup, largely within Asian countries, as well as shark meat and oil, the entire family of shark is threatened with extinction.
LUSH uses its blue “finned” soap to raise money for organizations dedicated to saving shark populations, such as Shark Savers and United Conservationists. The company also offers educational videos and informational blurbs on its website during its annual campaign, and guests to the numerous LUSH locations are educated by staff about the plights of sharks today. Commend LUSH for never standing idly by as the animals of the world suffer; the company is a constant force for animal rights and deserves recognition.

I am writing to commend you for LUSH’s continuous support of wild sharks. Every year LUSH launches a campaign designed to raise awareness about atrocities like shark fin soup, and what products like this mean for shark populations. Your company has never stood idly by as the animals of the world suffer. Thank you for understanding the importance of animal rights, and the barbarity of using animals as a means to human end.
Shark populations are declining rapidly. They need help, and I know that LUSH is doing its part to change the fate of sharks everywhere. Thank you.
