Save Shelter Cats from Being Killed Every Night

Target: Best Friends Animal Society CEO Gregory Castle

Goal: Use connections to save cats from being killed each day at overcrowded New York City shelters.

Each day, cats at New York animal shelters are scheduled to be destroyed due to space and funding limitations. A list of new destroyed animals is released daily and is updated after animals have been successfully euthanized. These cats can still be saved if enough of us come together and call on the Best Friends Animal Society for help. This group takes in homeless animals and reshelters them, finding them loving homes as well as spaying and neutering them. Sign this petition and write a letter to the Best Friends Society to tell them these pets need help.

Some cats on the “To Be Destroyed” list, have been in the shelter for less than three weeks before ultimately being put to death. And while not all of them are as urgent as tomorrow morning, there are countless other animals listed on the site that are up for execution that could be saved and loved. Pattie Cake, a six-month-old short-hair mix, was one of the animals up for execution. The longer we take to take action, the more cats that will die on a daily basis. Save up to three dozen innocent animals daily simply by adding your signature.

Dear Mr. Castle,

I am urgently pleading for your help for the sake of the lives of hundreds of homeless cats. These animals are put up for destruction every day and there is no reason they should not be going to good, loving homes. I want to save these cats tonight, but we cannot stop there. More and more animals will be put up for destruction and I hope that you will be able to help us keep them alive. Working together with your contacts and communication as well as the passion and dedication my peers share for these animals, we can make sure that no more innocent animals are killed.

Because you are an animal sanctuary and rehoming foundation, I am assured that you will be able to rescue these cats. Even if space is scarce, there is a far greater chance for these animals to find a loving and caring home through the supporters of your organization than through the supporters of a kill shelter. I hope that you are able to help me save these animals from certain doom and find them a caring family that gives them the love and affection they deserve.

  1. Please help them, they’re innocent & it is not their fault! This is why we fix our babies! My God, does anyone have better ideas to help these animals? I would if I was financially able, but I’m not working now.

  2. The ONLY way to prevent overpopulation of any specie is spaying, neutrilizing. In that way NO more new unwanted animals will be born. ANY other way is UNHumane!
Preventing is the only way to go IF we want to be called as humans!

  3. Yes, the shelters are overcrowded. Is that the fault of the cats and other animals who end up in this situation? Of course not! It’s the fault of greedy, selfish humans. So many of our cities are overcrowded by too many people. So should we begin euthanizing humans as well? Think about it !!!

  4. Signed Thank you so much for sending the petition our way.

  5. Healthy and treatable cats should NEVER be killed at any Shelter — the point of a Shelter is to hold and protect until homes are found — the policy and philosophy of killing should be destroyed permanently and replaced with holding and caring along with working with rescue groups, getting volunteers on board, promoting adoptions to loving people, etc. — NO-KILL has been done, and successfully at that — NO-KILL is being done today — NO-KILL CAN BE DONE!
