Target: Atlanta Falcons Coach, Dan Quinn
Goal: Thank football team for releasing a player after he allegedly kicked a dog to death.
Georgia police charged the Atlanta Falcons’ 23-year-old linebacker Prince Shembo with aggravated animal cruelty after his then-girlfriend’s dog died after being in his care. It turned out that the male Yorkshire Terrier suffered from blunt-force trauma and was not able to recover from the blow.
Police reports show that in April 2015, Denicia Williams called 911 and said that her boyfriend had allegedly hurt her dog. She said that she left Shembo alone with the dog and when she came back to get the dog, he was not responding to her. She took her dog to an animal hospital where he died a short time after that.
Williams called Shembo to figure out what happened and he told her over the phone that he kicked the dog. A necropsy on the dog was done and it was found that the dog suffered widespread injuries, including a pair of broken ribs, head trauma, eye injuries and extensive bruising on his legs. Because the injuries were not consistent with what Shembo had disclosed to the police, they arrested him on alleged animal abuse.
The Atlanta Falcons moved quickly to cut ties with the troubled player after the animal cruelty charges were announced. The team released a statement expressing their disappointment toward their former team member. They are surprised that he could commit a crime like this. Shembo was a fourth-round pick in 2014 out of Notre Dame. The Atlanta Falcons experienced a similar situation in 2007 with former quarterback Michael Vick, who was charged with running a dog fighting ring.
Please sign this petition to praise the Atlanta Falcons for immediately releasing Prince Shembo upon notice of his warrant for committing animal cruelty.
Dear Coach Dan Quinn,
It is with great disappointment that we report that one of your football players has been charged with animal cruelty for allegedly killing his now ex-girlfriend’s pet dog. This type of behavior should never be tolerated of any players on your team. You did the right thing by letting Prince Shembo go when you learned of his animal cruelty warrant.
You and the Falcon players moved quickly to cut ties with Shembo after the animal cruelty charges. Thank you for making the right move and releasing Prince Shembo immediately. He does not deserve to play on a nationally-recognized team like the Atlanta Falcons.
