Praise Animal Cruelty Task Force for Proactive Work

Screen Shot 2015-05-31 at 8.29.45 PM

Target: Lieutenant Andrea Taylor, head of the Bernalillo County Animal Cruelty Task Force

Goal: Thank task force for proactively seeking out animal cruelty in order to help as many animals as possible.

The Bernalillo County Animal Cruelty Task Force not only handles animal cruelty cases that come to it, but its team of volunteers and sheriffs also work together to proactively find cases of animal cruelty in the community in New Mexico. The task force physically sweeps the streets looking for animals who may need to be taken in and rescued.

These sweeps occur randomly and help to rescue many animals who may not otherwise be reported and rescued without any added overtime costs to the Bernalillo sheriff’s department. Deputy Laura Dailey said she and the task force look for signs of animal cruelty and neglect such as chained dogs who may not have adequate food and water or other animals who look as though they are not being properly cared for.

Deputy Dailey also said they look for signs of human abuse such as with children or spouses, which she says can oftentimes also be a sign of animal cruelty. In a recent sweep, the force found a dog chained to a fence who was malnourished and had fleas and ticks. Oftentimes on sweeps, the force finds chained dogs like this with no food and water and without any owner supervision. The force also hands out dog food to owners needing assistance.

Dailey said, “It’s hard for me personally to see these types of mistreated animals, however I do know that at the end of the day, with this task force and with this outreach program, that we’re making a difference in these animals lives.”

Thank the task force for their dedication to animal protection and caring for animals lives and their efforts in proactively stopping animal cruelty.

Dear Lieutenant Taylor,

The Bernalillo County Animal Cruelty Task Force located in New Mexico not only handles animal cruelty cases that come to it, but your team also goes above and beyond by working to proactively find cases in animal cruelty in the community. The fact that your task force takes the time to physically sweep the streets in order to look for animals needing to be rescued truly demonstrates the importance of animal lives and the difference we can make in protecting them.

Your team has been able to rescue animals who aren’t being taken care of and help owners who may need assistance feeding their animals. Thank you so much for your pledge and work towards bettering the lives of animals and going above and beyond to rescue animals in need.
