Don’t Let Dozens of Abandoned Chimpanzees Die of Starvation

Target: President and CEO of the New York Blood Center (NYBC) Dr. Christopher D. Hillyer

Goal: Don’t cut funding for care of chimpanzee victims of medical research.

Sixty-six captive chimpanzees in Liberia, Africa have been allegedly abandoned by the New York Blood Center and are now in danger of dying from dehydration and starvation. The NYBC had used the chimps in medical research, and since the chimps spent decades living in captivity, they do not have the skills to survive in the wild. They are completely reliant on the staff from NYBC for care, but the organization has withdrawn its commitment of lifetime care for the chimps and have left them to suffer on their own.

The New York Blood Center is an American organization that develops blood-related products and conducts medical research. But after using the chimps for years, the NYBC allegedly decided that the chimps were no longer profitable or worth their effort to provide care and treatment for. They have made the decision to step away from any type of moral responsibility and throw away the chimps like trash. Although the chimps’ longtime caretakers have continued to care for them voluntarily, the chimps will still not be able to live as comfortably as possible without the proper funding to support their needs.

The captive chimpanzees left behind deserve to be adequately taken care of. Please sign this petition to urge the NYBC to reestablish funding for the 66 chimps and keep their commitment to the chimps’ lifetime care.

Dear Dr. Christopher D. Hillyer,

I am writing to you concerning the 66 chimpanzees at the Vilab II sanctuary in Liberia, Africa and regarding the NYBC’s decision to stop allegedly providing funding for the chimps’ basic needs. If it weren’t for the contributions from kind, selfless volunteers and caretakers, the chimpanzees would not have even received food or water. It is completely unacceptable for the NYBC to abandon these chimps and refuse to support their basic needs when the organization had previously been committed to their long-term care.

The Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) and other organizations have been trying their best to help the abandoned chimps by providing emergency funding, but these contributions cannot be relied upon forever. Because your company was responsible for acquiring these chimps, you have the moral and ethical obligation to care for them for the rest of their lives. Again, I urge you to reinstate your funding and support of these helpless, innocent chimps. They deserve to a chance to live as comfortably as possible. Don’t throw them aside.

The New York Blood Center (NYBC)became a very wealthy company off the backs of these chimpanzees. You OWE them good care for the rest of their lives. You’re disgusting to abandon them as you have done.

No morals, whatsoever, but what else would one expect from animal experimenters.

  4. Tina shurtleff says:

Lets put the CEOs of this company in cages and let them starve. Sickening. These animals are our closest relatives. They deserve quality lives and compassion. Why

  5. Horrible, make these scumbags accountable!

  6. If they can’t take care and fund the chimps.maybe they can help transport them back here and accept application for adoption.or build a place for them to stay.

  7. Sydney M says:

Heartless doesn’t even begin to describe what these twisted humans did to these poor, helpless animals. It’s bad enough that they were used for research (which should never have been allowed), but then to be abandoned when they are no longer useful to their torturers ??? What kind of a world do we live in? At the very LEAST, these animals should be taken care of for the rest of their lives. To not do so is to add another atrocity to the ones already committed !!!!!!!!!!!

  8. Anne-Mari Gavin says:

ALL animal testing MUST be STOPPED Please!!!!
This is so cruel, barbaric and demonic!!!!
Thank you to those who really care for them and all the other animals. Bless you all.

  9. Révoltant et honteux ! Rien d’étonnant venant de ces gens de laboratoires sans conscience, sans âme ! Que le diable les emporte dans la souffrance comme ils ont su la donner leur vie durant !

  10. Karen Remnant says:

The company won’t care unless it’s hit hard financially! These animals were never anything more than ‘equipment’, purpose served, no longer needed!
