Target: Hon. Bona Fe De Vera Parayno, Mangaldan Municipal Mayor
Goal: Demand maximum punishment for dog meat traders arrested in the Philippines
Two dog meat traders were arrested in March at their slaughterhouse in the Philippines and will soon stand trial. Filipino trade in dog meat is a cruel but common business, and involves the brutal torture and murder of dogs so their meat can be sold for food.
Network for Animals conducted a raid on the dog meat slaughterhouse in Mangaldan, Philippines following two months of detective work. The property owner and his accomplice were arrested after a gruesome scene was discovered. Dog corpses, blood and knives were found throughout the slaughterhouse. Three dead dogs were found boiled and skinned in a metal bowl, a practice meat traders perform on the corpses in order to pull the dog’s softened fur out and blow-torch the hairs that remain. Four of the seven live dogs discovered later were terrified but otherwise healthy; three of the poor creatures did not survive.
The two arrested dog meat traders are accused of violating the Animal Welfare and Anti-Rabies Act. If convicted they will each receive a minimum of twelve months in prison. Demand both traders receive the maximum punishment for their cruel, heartless crimes.
Dear Hon. Mayor Bona Fe De Vera Parayno,
The dog meat trade is a cruel business which involves the brutal torture and murder of animals who otherwise could have been family pets. What’s more, it endangers the health of unsuspecting consumers since many of the dogs used for their meat are strays which may be infected with rabies and other contagious diseases.
Two dog meat traders were recently arrested at their slaughterhouse in Mangaldan. Months of detective work lead the organization Network for Animals to conduct their raid on the dog meat slaughterhouse on March 11, which resulted in the gruesome discovery of dog corpses, blood and knives. Three dead dogs were found already boiled and skinned, along with two other corpses. Seven live dogs were later found waiting to be slaughtered, three of which could not be saved.
The property owner and his accomplice were arrested for violating the Animal Welfare and Anti-Rabies Act. Fortunately the two men were caught and are set to stand trial for their crimes. The property owner and his accomplice were arrested for violating the Animal Welfare and Anti-Rabies Act. I demand they both receive the maximum punishment possible for their cruel, heartless acts.
