Condemn Tiger Killing Spectacles

Condemn Tiger Killing Spectacles

Target: Xi Jinping, President of China

Goal: Urge action against tiger killing shows and ban tiger captivity

In China, the tiger is seen as a source of good fortune. However, the spectacle of torturing and killing tigers is also seen as a sign of status among prominent businessmen and officials. In the last few months, it is reported that ten tigers have been subjected to torture and slaughtered for the amusement of high-class members of society. Condemn these atrocities by petitioning the Chinese government to enact stringent penalties against this sick form of entertainment, and to ban the ‘farms’ that sell captive tigers to buyers.

The selling and trade of products derived from tigers is actually illegal in China, but a loophole in the system means that certain institutions are allowed to keep tigers in captivity. In around 200 institutions in China, there are 6,000 captive tigers, whereas only 3,200 exist in the wild. These ‘farms’ are where most of the tiger products on the black market come from, and it is likely that the ten tigers killed in previous months came from these places.

While several people were recently arrested in connection with a tiger killing ring, many more are still at large, and while these tiger farms exist, tiger  products will be exported for a high price to wealthy buyers.

Sign this petition to pressure the Chinese government to crackdown heavily on tiger killing, and to ban ‘tiger farms’ and release captive tigers back into the wild.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Xi Jinping,

I write to you in sadness over the recent news that tigers have been subjected to torture and death for the pleasure of businessmen and officials. Reportedly, ten tigers in the past few months have been killed in this sickening way.

Due to a loophole in your system, institutions in China are able to keep 6,000 tigers in captivity, when there are only 3,200 in the wild. The selling of tiger products was made illegal in 1993, yet the numbers of trades and the money made from them are still high. I urge you to crackdown heavily on these tiger killing rings, and to outlaw ‘tiger farms’, releasing captive tigers into the wild to bolster their dwindling numbers.

Tigers are symbols of good fortune in your country, but there is no honor in their torture and murder. The people who witness these spectacles, as well as the people who orchestrate them, should be severely dealt with.

President, I urge you to enact strict policies to end the trafficking of tigers, crackdown on tiger killing rings, and close the institutions that keep tigers captive – probably in terrible conditions – to sell their body parts for profit. No animal deserves to be treated in this way. Please, end their suffering now.

Sincerely

What is wrong with the Chinese people?

This type of behavior is seen in our society as well.
This is called a right of passage or machismo, or about becoming a real man.
This behavior must be stopped, but is most certainly not a Chinese phenomenon.
Until we as a human race evolve as a whole, then practices or spectacles showing businessmen’s or businesswomen’s prowess, then our fellow wildlife sentient being with suffer by our hands.
