Protect Vulnerable Lions from Hunting

Target: Melissa Bachman

Goal: Condemn Melissa Bachman for killing an African lion

A photo of Melissa Bachman smiling with a rifle in hand, and sitting next to a dead lion has sparked controversy. The photo has gone viral and caused outrage, especially by animal conservationists.

The caption next to the photo reads, ”An incredible day hunting in South Africa! Stalked inside 60-yards on this beautiful male lion. What a hunt!” The lion is not considered an endangered species, but it is considered vulnerable. Many find the photo sickening, as Africa has made tremendous effort to ensure that these magnificent creatures do not go extinct. According to scientists, with the rate that African lions are being killed, the species will be extinct in a decade.

Melissa Bachman is currently a producer and co-host for the show Winchester Deadly Passion and is a native to Minnesota. The woman states that she has been hunting all her life, and started hunting at a young age.

The kill took place in the Maroi Conservancy, whose motto is ”conservation through sustainable hunting.” The facility made a post about the hunt: “We are not apologising for facilitating the hunt. If you are not a game farmer and struggling with dying starving animals, poaching and no fences in place to protect your animals and crop, please refrain from making negative derogatory[sic] comments.” Bachman also defended her actions for killing the lion by donating the meat to a local community, although if the woman wished to help the surrounding community she should have hunted animals that were not considered vulnerable. While the kill was made legally, and Bachman did follow guidelines, there is much controversy over killing exotic animals.

On her website, there is a section listed “Trophy Room” filled with pictures of kills made in her life. These include other African animals like zebras and antelope, along with an alligator and an Alaskan bear. In many of these pictures Bachman is smiling proudly. Sign this petition if you believe this woman should be condemned for her actions.

PETITION LETTER:

Dear Melissa Bachman,

I am writing this letter to express my disgust at your recent kill of an African lion. The species, while it is not endangered, it is considered vulnerable. The country of Africa has done everything in its power to ensure that this species does not go extinct, and while your kill was legal, the amount of pride you took in taking its life is disturbing. Scientists are even predicting the species to go extinct within the next decade.

I urge you to reexamine your conscience, as animal lovers around the world are petitioning for you to stay out of South Africa. I for one do not condone hunting an animal for sport or trophies, especially ones that are on the brink of going extinct.

Sincerely,

[Your Name Here]

  1. She is a murdering bimbo with boobs. If she really wanted to help Africa with fencing needs she could have donated the money & left the wildlife alone.

  2. Luciana Gonçalves says:

This woman is a killer and sending an e-mail calling her dear is the end of the line.

  3. How does it feel Melissa to know tens or hundreds of thousands of people around the world think you’re a disgusting piece of crap! You’re a disgrace.
