Target: Planning Committee of East Riding Council, UK
Goal: Reject proposal to breed Beagles solely so they can be used for cruel and painful laboratory tests.
Bantin and Kingman Universal in the UK recently announced their proposal for breeding and raising Beagles for the express purpose of experimenting on the dogs. A similar proposal put forward by this company was denied before, making this their second attempt at trying to get permission to raise defenseless creatures only to perform life-threatening tests on them. The Planning Committee of East Riding Council rejected the earlier proposal on the basis that it was cruel in nature and an unnecessary practice. Demand that Bantin and Kingman Universal have their request shut down again, firmly sending the sign that animal cruelty in any form is not acceptable.
Bantin and Kingman Universal’s plan is pretty simple: breed Beagles in house, raise the dogs, and conduct horrifying tests on them until the animals are no longer useful for their projects. Last year alone more than 3,000 dogs in the UK were used in experiments. Beagles tend to be chosen over other dogs because they have an inherent sense of trust and passivity, making them the perfect target for testing. The animals are force-fed chemicals or have substances pumped into their veins to test reactions to different drugs and agricultural chemicals. Negative reactions are not uncommon and result in the little dogs becoming so sick that they die in pain, or are euthanized since they can no longer be tested upon.
No animal should grow up only seeing the inside of a lab where people are only there to poke, prod and test substances. These creatures deserve–at the very least–to have the chance to play with other animals or be loved by a family. Being born into Bantin and Kingman Universal’s laboratory guarantees a lifetime of chemical testing and cages, a practice which is inherently inhumane since dogs are not designed to serve only as testing subjects for humans. Demand a second rejection of Bantin and Kingman Universal’s proposal for in house breeding.
Dear East Riding Council,
I recently read about Bantin and Kingman Universal’s second proposal for an in house breeding program with Beagles. Seeing that their first proposal was already rejected, it is clear that what they are trying to do is simply inhumane and should not be allowed. Please shut down their second attempt and help protect the animals who cannot speak for themselves.
The majority of a testing dog’s life is spent being force-fed chemicals or having foreign substances pumped into veins as a group of lab workers look for any adverse reactions. As negative responses are not uncommon, these dogs will often die in pain or be euthanized since they are no longer useful to the company.
No animal should be bred for the express purpose of being caged and pumped full of experimental chemicals. Animals are beings as well, and deserve more than to be abused at the hands of humans.
